What is Admin Bar in WordPress?

The admin bar is a toolbar that can be seen at the top of the WordPress site when logged in. This floating toolbar is built with the intent of helping users switch between the admin screens, as a shortcut. Every user logged in WordPress site and being frontend or backend doesn’t matter for the admin bar to be visible.

It’s not too difficult to see, as the toolbar is either grey or black with “+New” on its left side, which eases sorting out the tasks. The admin bar, in particular, is useful when admins need to quicken up solutions and the toolbar helps them switch faster between accessing the WordPress admin dashboard, post-options and altering the themes.

Understanding the WordPress Admin Bar

WordPress admin bar is a floating toolbar that is valuable to the administrators when they have logged in to the WordPress site and are trying to access backend settings. These settings include access to the WordPress admin dashboard, managing the plugins and posts, and viewing the analytics.

The admins can decide who can access and see the WordPress admin bar, with respect to the user roles and permissions. Yet, the majority of the users who log in to the account, specifically the non-admin users may not need such a bar because it can hinder them from actually figuring out the website.

The non-admin users may get distracted, and before they find the site’s features fully, they may leave after seeing the unclean interface the admin bar probably forces on them.

The user experience will fail, and also where rare instances where admin bars are not needed, site owners would hide them. Otherwise, the front end would be getting littered.

Show or Hide the Admin Bar

To deal with displaying or hiding the “Admin Bar” for non-admin users, you have to follow the steps below:-

  • Select the WordPress admin dashboard, and then click on “User Profiles”
  • Click on the “Edit My Profile” link.
  • Scroll down to the checkbox labelled with “Show Toolbar when viewing site.”
  • Uncheck this box if you want to hide the admin bar or check it if needed.
  • Don’t forget to click on “Save Changes” for the changes to be visible.
